    What is HYPE?

    textingHYPE Youth Health Centre is a completely free and confidential service for young people aged 12 to 24 in the Ashburton District, as well as for parents and others looking for information about youth issues.  HYPE is a not-for-profit service which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of young people in mid Canterbury through a holistic focus on physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing.

    HYPE is a one-stop-shop for information about all sorts of issues affecting young people.  We can provide information and resources on a wide range of topics including nutrition, sexual health, quitting smoking, safe partying, dealing with stress, tertiary education, WINZ benefits, alcohol and drugs, legal advice, mental health, housing, budget advice, sexuality and body image, and driving/road safety.

    We can also help with referrals to other youth services including Youth Support, WINZ, Community Law, Youth Employment Broker, Drug and Alcohol Services, Public Health Nurses, Sexual Health Clinic/Family Planning, and Dental Clinics.

    HYPE also provides health services including a Brief Intervention Worker for youth with mild to moderate mental health issues, as well as a wide range of health information and resources including free condoms and pregnancy tests.

    OutsideOpening Hours

    HYPE is staffed by a Coordinator and is open for drop-ins from 2pm to 5pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  The Coordinator is also available to speak to groups and do presentations on nutrition, sexual health or other youth health issues any day during the week.
