Safer Ashburton, in conduction with the Haketere Marai, have developed the Community Restorative Garden Project. Designed to provide skill building and job experience for young people who have difficulty finding initial employment due to socially isolating behavior, or previous criminal activity, the Community Restorative Garden offers young people a six month paid position.

Based at the Haketere Marai, the Community Restorative Garden works to be a self sustaining project while supporting and giving back to the community. One third of the food produced by the Restorative Garden is targeted to be given to food banks, while another third is used in support of Marai based events. The last third of the produce is targeted for sale, with all proceeds going back to funding new crops to be produced in the Restorative Garden.
