Truancy

Working with families, schools and others to help put plans in place to increase attendance at school

Safer Ashburton is contracted by the government to carry out Ashburton's Truancy service. Safer Ashburton employs two part time staff who work alongside families, schools, and other groups to help put plans and strategies in place for families to increase the attendance of children and young people at school.

Truancy from school can be encouraged by a wide variety of factors in a young persons life, and our Truancy Officers are able to assist in helping young people and families engage with the supports they need to help a young person back into school.

The Truancy officers also do regular patrols throughout the community to discourage truancy from school.
